Forget the X-Factor! What about the Why?
``We live in a society built on success, performance and an ever increasing pressure to reach a certain standard.
The world is only interested in a highlight reel: best jobs or uni positions, most attractive image, most successful career or family.
Do more, be more, have more. Ever changing, unattainable ideals like a mouse on a treadmill ever-seeking, never quite reaching fulfillment.
But what happens when, regardless of the amount of strategies, tips and tricks and techniques, it doesn't work? When you can no longer "fake it til you make it" and your highlight reel is not what others expect or accept?
For me, living in a neuro-typical society with the neuro-diverse reality of spina bifida and hydrocephalus with significant health issues besides, meant settling for the mundane.
I searched for purpose and value in the simple things like saying ``Hello'' to the elderly person in the street or offering a gentle smile to a crying soul. With all my heart I wanted to do more and be more for others, although my health would not allow it,
but when a smile and a hello is all you have to offer, you realise the immense value and lack of these simple things in society.
Life isn't a highlight reel. Life is messy. People may look like they have it together on the outside but behind the mask, behind the 'executive', 'teacher', 'parent', 'student' labels we're all the same - human.
My great-grandfather was a quiet gentleman who listened more than he spoke. If he said something, you could be sure that although it may be simple, it would be full of profound love, wisdom and truth. He listened to understand rather than to respond - he taught me the power of what it means to simply be. Life was about loving, serving and appreciating others and about caring for their hearts.
This is why I do what I do - to bring life, joy, comfort, love, freedom, security and peace amid the chaos or disappointments of life.
I exist to do one thing - to reach the heart.''
